Square Root Love

“Don’t ask what the world needs.
Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
~ Howard Thurman

"Living well is an art that can be developed:
a love of life and ability to take great pleasure from small offerings
and assurance that the world owes you nothing
and that every gift is exactly that, a gift. "
~Maya Angelou

Ordinary Perfection

"For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Music" Rain by Priscilla Ahn

I will seek elegance rather than luxury,
refinement rather than fashion.
I will seek to be worthy more than respectable,
wealthy and not rich.

I will study hard, think quietly,
talk gently, and act frankly.

I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages,
with an open heart.
I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await
occasions and hurry never.

In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and
unconscious grow up through the common.

Serendipity

Few people know how to take a walk.
The qualifications are endurance, plain clothes, old shoes,
an eye for nature, good humor, vast curiosity, good speech,
good silence and nothing too much.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Serendipity.
Look for something, find something else,
and realize that what you've found is more suited
to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.

Life's bittersweet route

"Our individuality is all, all, that we have.
There are those who barter it for security, those who repress it for
what they believe is the betterment of the whole society,

but blessed in the twinkle of the morning star
is the one who nurtures it and rides it in,
in grace and love and wit,
from peculiar station to peculiar station
along life's bittersweet route."
~ Tom Robbins

"Life is a train of moods like a string of beads;
and as we pass through them they prove to be many colored lenses,
which paint the world their own hue, and each shows us only
what lies in its own focus."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Footsteps in the snow

suggest where you have been,
point to where you were going:
but when they suddenly vanish,
never dismiss the possibility
of flight..."

Only in dark the light,
Only in dying life:

Dance me to the end of love

"I believe that everything happens for a reason.
People change so that you can learn to let go,
things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right,
and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."
~ Marilyn Monroe

Knock, And He'll open the door
Vanish, And He'll make you shine like the sun
Fall, And He'll raise you to the heavens
Become nothing, And He'll turn you

"Your task is not to seek for love,
but merely to seek and find all the barriers
within yourself that you have built against it."

"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing

I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass
the world is too full to talk about."

Life is life, live it...

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.
Life is beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.
Life is a duty, complete it.
Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.
Life is sorrow, overcome it.
Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.
Life is a tragedy, confront it.
Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.
Life is too precious, do not destroy it.
Life is life, fight for it."

Tao

"Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.

Simple in actions and thoughts,
you return to the source of being.

Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.

Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world."

Universe

A human being is a part of the whole
called by us universe, a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling
as something separated from the rest,
a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us,
restricting us to our personal desires
and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison
by widening our circle of compassion
to embrace all living creatures and
the whole of nature in its beauty."
~Albert Einstein

Timelines

There were timelines branching and branching,
a mega-universe of universes, millions more every minute.
Billions? Trillions?

The universe split every time someone made a decision.
Split, so that every decision ever made could go both ways.
Every choice made...was reversed in the universe next door."
~ Larry Niven

"Things outside you are projections of what's inside you,
and what's inside you is a projection of what's outside.
So when you step into the labyrinth outside you,
at the same time you're stepping into the labyrinth inside."
~Haruki Murakami

"If you have to choose between something that has form

That's my rule.
Whenever I run into a wall I follow that rule,

Big Mind, small mind

The opposite of love is not hate,
it's indifference.
The opposite of art is not ugliness,
it's indifference.
The opposite of faith is not heresy,
it's indifference.
And the opposite of life is not death,
it's indifference.

The Magician

..And you know, this thought crossed my mind at the time:
maybe chance is a pretty common thing after all.
Those kinds of coincidences are happening all around us,
all the time, but most of them don't attract our attention
and we just let them go by.
It's like fireworks in the daytime.
You might hear a faint sound,
but even if you look up at the sky you can't see a thing.

But if we're really hoping something may come true
it may become visible, like a message rising to the surface.
Then we're able to make it out clearly, decipher what it means.
And seeing it before us we're surprised and
wonder at how strange things like this can happen.
Even though there's nothing strange about it. ..."

Maybe Baby

Maybe, baby, the promised land was there and I missed it.
Look at it glittering in the light. But the truth is I am inventing
the maybe.
I can only make the choices I make,
so why torture myself with what I might have done,
when all I can handle is what I have done.
The Maybe Islands are hostile to human life."
— Jeanette Winterson

I think we need more emotion, not less.
But I think, too, that we need to educate people in how to feel.
Emotionalism is not the same as emotion.
We cannot cut out emotion - in the economy of the human body,
it is the limbic, not the neural, highway that takes precedence.
We are not robots...but we act as though all our problems
would be solved if only we had no emotions
to cloud our judgement."

The Invisibles

"...know the value of the world and not its economic potential.
It means art, it means time, it means all the invisibles
never counted by the GDP and the census figures.
It means knowing that life has an inside
as well as an outside.
And I think it means love."

Letting go

People get into a heavy-duty sin and guilt trip,
feeling that if things are going wrong,
that means that they did something bad
and they are being punished.
That's not the idea at all.

The idea of karma is that you continually get
the teachings that you need to open your heart.
To the degree that you didn't understand in the past

how to stop protecting your soft spot,
how to stop armoring your heart,
you're given this gift of teachings
in the form of your life,
to give you everything you need
to open further."
